 Math

I can evaluate expressions using the order of operations

This week, students worked on a really tricky problem called the 54321 Challenge! We used our knowledge of the order of operations (BEDMAS) to help us work through it. We had to use the digits 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 (without changing the order) and could use brackets and any of the 4 operations. We worked so hard on this and a few of us are really close to completing the challenge!

 Science

I can classify fingerprints collected from a variety of surfaces.

This week, we learned about 3 different types of fingerprint patters: whorl, loop, arch.

Then, we used a pencil and tape to examine our own fingerprint patterns! Ask us which patterns we have!

Science

This week we started our new Evidence and Investigation unit! We began by our unit by testing our observation skills! We learned about selective attention after watching this video:

I can analyzing the ink from different pens, using paper chromatography

We learned about 3 different kinds of variables: independent, dependent, and controlled. We were given a scenario in which something was vandalized using a black pen. It was up to the students to solve the crime using a chromatography experiment.

Math

I can visualize and describe a combination of two transformations that relate symmetrical shapes.

I can investigate tessellations found in objects, art, or architecture.

This week, we started learning about tessellations and symmetry. Students were given the opportunity to create their own tessellations and symmetrical designs using loose parts and pattern blocks.
