I can create narratives that develop setting, plot, and character; I can use suspense, figurative language, and dialogue in story writing; I can enhance personal style and voice through careful selection of words; I can edit writing for spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

We started writing our second story of the year. We began the same way: our choice of 2 picture prompts

We began planning our stories using a planning diamond.

Student's were reminded to pay attention to a few things when writing their stories:

  • Be careful on how much dialogue your story has - a good rule is 2 pieces of dialogue, then something else (action, description)

  • Have a balance of dialogue, action, description

  • Make sure your story makes sense!

  • Have a clear beginning, elaborative detail (explain a setting, character, or feeling), middle, and end

  • Don’t forget a problem or conflict

  • Try to include a figure of speech!

We also learned about 8 figures of speech.

We are going to try to include at least 1 in our stories!
