September 11 - 15

I can identify characteristics that distinguish deciduous from coniferous trees.

I can describe and classify leaf shapes and edges.

This week, the Grade 6 students walked to Fish Creek Park and were tasked with drawing a coniferous tree and a deciduous tree. We learned that coniferous trees have cones and do not shed their needles in the fall. Deciduous trees have leaves that fall off in the autumn.

We also learned about 8 different leaf shapes, 2 different needle shapes, and 4 types of leaf edges.

Students were given plasticine to create each one! We then took photos of our work and glued in the picture into our visual journals.
